eclipse Staging Services supplied audio, video, lighting and rigging equipment to the glamorous 2016 AFC Annual Awards. Working in line with the AFC and CSM, the event was held in Emirates Palace, marking the second time which the awards were hosted in Abu Dhabi.
This most prestigious night in the Asian football calendar recognizes and honors the best talent and showcases the Asian champions for their contribution to the game.
“Technical installation went very smooth as a lot of pre-production and prep was done before getting to site,” commented head of video Lee Worthington. Supplying 12m by 5m of their new Unilumin LED screen, amounting to 8.9million pixels, eclipse provided one of the first automated screens of its size and resolution which could split and give the performers an entrance and exit off stage. The highlight pieces of kit were the two Green Hippo TAIGA media servers used to control the high volume of quality content as well as making the mapping to the surrounding screens simple with the Hippo ScreenWarp feature. The Green Hippo media servers were used in conjunction with six Datapath X4s, a 24 x 24 DVI Matrix, and a GrandMA Light console for control.
On the audio side of things, the awards called for two ground stacks of six L-Acoustics dv-dosc, two dv subs left and right and four 5xt for front fill, while side and upstage fills required four 12xts, all of which was powered by LA8 and LA4 amps. For radio mics and in-ear monitors, the team supplied eight channels of UR4D and six channels of Sennheiser G3 IEMs. Due to the high number of TV and media companies present, the audio team utilised their RF explorer RF analyser together with their clear waves software to give them good indication of the RF situation on the day. Tariq Al-Hassan, senior audio engineer recalls, “Being able to scan and assign available RF channels then import them automatically with the remote software made working with RF very efficient if any changes were required.” He goes on, “We also had a healthy amount of Clear-Com providing 12 packs of HelixNet and six packs of the new FreeSpeak II. All in all, this gave us a flexible solution and perfect communication.”
The lighting for the whole event which included the gala dinner and pre-function areas called on over 500 lighting fixtures from the eclipse lighting department, as well custom made gobos for one of the acts. The lighting show was designed and programmed by eclipse senior lighting technician, Junder Luzon. Although a lot of the final lighting was decided on-site, Junder utilised eclipse’s WYSIWYG suite to pre-visualise the show in the early stages of planning.
Jhune Lenon, eclipse project manager concludes, “We are delighted with how this event turned out, the team really deserve a pat on the back for this one. The successful delivery of this event was thanks to the dedication, hard work and technical knowledge of our staff. With all events come some challenges, and this was no exception, but thanks to the planning and team work of the crew we delivered a superb event and we’re thrilled with the outcome.”
